The sign still flickers

The sign still flickers,

a pulse in the grey.

Same corner, same cheap light,

leading me astray.

My gut tightens,

a familiar ache.

For that quick fix,

that sweet mistake.

The walk here,

a story I know.

Each step a question,

where do I go?

The craving, a hunger,

a relentless plea.

For the worn cap,

the release for me.

It's smoothed by the thumb,

this plastic thing.

Holds a promise,

a dangerous sting.

Another turn,

another fall.

Giving in to it,

giving it all.
