The strip of photos faded now

The strip of photos, faded now,

a younger face, I don't know how

we laughed like that. The grainy squares,

unaware of coming cares.

That day, the sun was bright and loud,

lost in the ordinary crowd.

We ate ice cream, the usual street,

a simple day, profoundly sweet.

I didn't know, I couldn't see,

that simple thing was ending, free

of all pretense. The last goodbye,

beneath a clear, unthinking sky.
