That child's small coat a depth of night

That child's small coat, a depth of night,

Pulled me right back with all its might.

The velvet nap, a velvet deep,

Where light and shadow used to sleep.

It shifted, pooled, a dark expanse,

A childhood caught in fleeting glance.

A softness then, a weighty thing,

The memories that textures bring.
