Words Left Hanging

“Take care,” I said, as the bus jolted

under the weight of a thousand stories,

a bus driver who shifted his gaze,

his eyes a map I wanted to explore,

yet we remained trapped in our roles,

small moments where distance,

like fog, veils connections yet unseen.

That phrase, so mundane,

lingers like smoke in the air,

I wonder if he felt the weight

of those words, the push and pull

of concern in the midst of rush,

our lives veering close but never touching—

was it too light for him, or

the perfect anchor in a sea of noise?
