Half-Whispered Secrets

I let it slide, that lie like a pebble

rolled off my tongue in the dark;

a truth so easily lost, it wedged

itself between laughter and shared glances,

a flickering streetlight against the night.

Years later, we still pretend it’s not there,

every awkward pause heavy with

silence, unspoken truths painted over

by the lies we nurture like delicate blooms.

I hear the echoes in our conversations,

every word weighted with what’s not said,

as if the lie festers, hidden, yet palpable,

a ghost lingering, haunting our bright smiles,

as we dance around the truth,

like moths around a flame.
