She wore a dress of velvet

She wore a dress of velvet,

the way it caught the light

    felt like gravity,

a pull that drew me near,

    yet warned me away.

A shimmer that spoke softly,

like silk wrapping secrets,

    and when she smiled,

it seemed to stretch,

to tease the air between us

    with unspoken words—

    the beauty of desire,

    but at what cost?
