Thresholds of Silence

The crack in the door lets the noise slip right through,

Faint murmurs of anger, a love overdue.

Just a sliver of light in the space where we part,

Invitations to chaos that haunt the heart.

I stood there a moment, frozen in fear,

Hearing two lives collide, each whisper so clear.

The world feels so close, yet somehow so far,

Where silence is loud, like a warning bell’s spar.

In the hallway’s embrace, I lingered alone,

Each heartbeat a question, a thought overgrown.

What binds us together, what tears us apart?

In this space of a doorway, I search for a start.
