Bumps in the Road

Each day I drive this route, like clockwork it seems,

until today, a pothole jolts me from dreams.

My tires hit hard, a thud that rattles my mind,

reminds me of fractures I’ve tried to unwind.

Underneath the surface, life lurks and swells,

the cracks in the pavement tell silent tales.

Avoiding these bumps has become my routine,

but here they are, raw, in the cracks between.
