Transparent Barriers

At the window, the rain paints a picture unclear,

each droplet a moment, a memory near.

I trace my own face through the glass, heavy,

a veil between worlds, an unsteady levee.

Outside, life pulses, a blur and a glow,

the street fading softly, like thoughts I let go.

I peer through the surface, a threshold of doubt,

a longing for something, but never quite out.
