Lapsed

The email arrived with a sterile goodbye,

no more charges for things that I never would try.

The bank statement’s cleaner, the thirteen is gone,

and the world hasn't ended and life carries on.

The red banner sits on the edge of the screen,

over a face that I’ve barely even seen.

I’m done with the stories that never quite end,

and the money I’m too tired to even pretend

to spend.
