Junior Year

The siren screams until my teeth feel loose.

I’m sitting on the tiles against the wall.

They say it’s just a phase, a poor excuse

for how it feels to stumble and to fall.

The locker won’t unlock, the numbers slide.

I pick the threads that fray across my knee.

There isn’t any place for me to hide

from everything they want for me to be.
