The Long Way

The woman in the dashboard tells me turn.

I watch the miles and the gasoline burn.

The road is narrowing toward the state line,

and every exit that I miss is mine.

I turn the volume up to kill the sound;

I’d rather drive until I’m never found.

The orange light is glowing on the dash,

a tiny sun before the final crash.
