Saved Static

I was cleaning out my phone,

a digital sweep.

Found a message saved from years ago,

a promise I couldn't keep.

Your voice,

a little fuzzy at the edges,

compressed and thin.

It made me stop,

just for a second,

where do I begin?

That laugh,

it sounds like someone else now,

a ghost I didn't call.

The urgency is gone,

just static on the wall

of my attention.
