Refraction

The air is thick with a chemical sting,

and the tiles are cold against my skin.

I dive in deep to hear the silence ring,

waiting for the quiet to begin.

Looking down, my legs are bent and wide,

severed from my hips by the turquoise light.

A trick of the surface with nowhere to hide,

broken and pale and strangely white.
