Common Area

The elevator is stuck on ten.

I have to take the stairs again.

The third-floor scuff is still right there,

a black mark in the stagnant air.

The light tube flickers overhead

above a puddle of cherry red.

Someone spilled their drink and fled,

leaving the hallway cold and dead.
