Perimeter

The neighbor finished the cedar today.

It’s six feet of fresh-cut wood

blocking the view of the alley weeds.

He used a pneumatic gun;

I heard the staples biting in

all through the heat of the afternoon.

There is a red mitten caught

on one of the pointed tops.

It looks like a small, flat hand

trying to wave me over

to a yard I can’t see anymore.
