Woke up with it tingling

Woke up with it tingling,

that pins-and-needles jolt.

For a minute, it wasn't mine.

Just a hand, lying there

on the pillow, separate.

The lines on its palm looked alien,

a roadmap to somewhere

I hadn't been, couldn't place.

I traced the creases, unfamiliar valleys,

and felt a strange disconnect, like

it belonged to someone else's quiet life.

Not mine.
