Fraying edges

The strap gave out—keys hit the ground,

Clattering like secrets, unbound.

Rough hemp threads unravel slow,

Frayed edges tell what I don’t show.

Faded fibers stiff and worn,

A relic of days bruised and torn.

Between my fingers, coarse and dry,

The quiet pulse of years gone by.
