Dwindling Beam

Fuse box door,

creaking open.

My thumb on the switch,

hope broken.

The circle of light,

yellow, then thin.

Pulsed, a cough.

Then the absolute dark set in.

A slow fade,

not sudden.

The last gasp visible,

then swallowed.
