Endless Waiting

The phone rings once, then silence like stone,

my fingers trace numbers, they linger and tease,

a dial tone hums, a melancholy drone,

where's the voice, the warmth, the stories to please?

In the stillness, I float on a threadbare line,

waiting for words that may never come through,

time ticks slow, a clock's distant chime,

my solitude swells, searching for you.
