The Fence That Wasn't Mine

The wind kicked hard, a splintered post bends,

yards collide in a jagged embrace,

twisted wood tells tales of silent friends,

sharing secrets now lost in this space.

A rickety guard against memories shared,

like fences we build around hearts that once knew,

these fragments of wood hold the weight of despair,

like the pieces of me that still cling to you.
