Infrastructure

The truck hits the corner with a heavy thud,

splashing the curb with a spray of grey mud.

The iron plate jumps and it gives a loud crack,

settling down on its cold, metal track.

The patterns are rusted and worn nearly flat,

where the tires have polished the street like a mat.

I wish I could bolt it, or make it stay still,

but it rattles the glass on my thin window sill.
