Ride or Die

Me, alone and blinded by the spotlight

soul cracked open for a crowd

and then he shouts

“That’s my girl!”

And that’s when I knew

I will ride with you

Through every court case

Every triumph

When the record deal comes

Or the jobs come through

And the house is bought

Or the apartment lost

When the setbacks drum up

I will ride with you.

I will die with you

On the sand under the sun

With our melanin darkening

I will die with you

Until our skin turns black from

The UV rays

I will die with you

When your heart collapses

And your soul is exhausted

When your body gives out

And your mind can no longer

Create new melodies and chords

I will sit with you

Until your final breath

I will die with you, my love

I will die with you.

And when we die

let us die with love on our lips

and poetry coating our final breath
