Strange Fruit

There’s some strange fruit round these parts

Held up by a rope

Brown and putrid

Strange fruit

We got some strange fruit

In the south these days

Burnt flesh and

Body rolled

In a yoga mat

Strange fruit

Strange fruit

Lord knows what a nigga finna do

When you see some strange fruit

In your neighborhood

What you gonna do!?

This ain’t just Mississippi Goddamn no more

Strange fruit

Swings

Blood on the leaves

Stains our streets

Strange Fruit

Death by

Strange Fruit

And the ghost

Of Charles Lynch

Broken hearted

That his name no longer stood for freedom

But

The strange fruit

On southern trees

#american identity and its contradictions #collective responsibility #historical continuity of anti-black oppression #protest and artistic witness #racial violence
