Heavy Silence

In the elevator, I catch my own eye,

the flickering light a moment to steal.

A breath held tight as the floors slide by,

weight presses down like a bruise I conceal.

I smile at my shadow, but the laugh feels thin,

as solitude settles in this metallic womb.

A space so confined, yet a freedom within,

crammed into silence, the feeling of doom.

Counting each floor, I dream of escape,

a brief stop where laughter might break the cold chain.

Here in this box, I’m lost in the shape

of heavy silence that dances with pain.
