Roots of Discomfort

I watched you waver, a leaf in the breeze,

our laughter tangled in roots of despair.

You reached for something, a lifeline, I guess,

as voices slipped soft like shadows laid bare.

The branches around us, twisted and bare,

like hands seeking solace, no answer in sight.

Each moment a reminder of love turned to care,

our hearts float like paper boats lost to the night.

What was it that chased you? What promise was lost?

A weight held too close, too heavy to bear.

As I sit on this bench, I’m counting the cost,

a stillness now tangled in currents of air.
