Weighty Silence

Visiting the ward, I see it again,

a cast wrapped tight, heavy and white.

Like the burden of silence, it echoes the pain,

a reminder of fragility, slipping from light.

The throb of the plaster weighs down my dreams,

a dullness that lingers, an aching refrain.

What’s hidden inside? What’s left unredeemed?

In moments of stillness, I wrestle with shame.

I recall the fall, the noise and the crack,

a flash of a moment, a blink turned to dread.

This weight on my limb is a shadowed contract,

its presence like questions that ache in my head.
