The sun hung high and laughter rang true

The sun hung high, and laughter rang true,

a castle of sand stood, a child's proud debut.

Waves kissed the shore, while joy painted bright,

a fortress of dreams under the glaring daylight.

But then came a child, with laughter so loud,

who stomped through the gate, so wild and so proud.

With careless abandon, he crushed what was grand,

and the builder stood frozen, with tears in the sand.

Broken seashells lay scattered like lost hopes,

where the castle once stood, now a landscape that gropes.

And I watched the sun smile, uncaring and cruel,

as dreams turned to ruins in a vast sandy pool.
