Holding the Line

I've always worn this role like a second skin,

yet lately the weight is a boulder I bear.

Responsibilities stack, each day wears me thin,

while memories flutter, bright moments to share.

I watch my youngest stumble through choices,

wanting to guide, but my voice feels too loud.

I remember my battles, my own inner voices,

standing in shadows of hope, feeling proud.

An old family photo, our faces fixed bright,

eyes filled with futures, each smile a door.

Yet in that reflection, I wrestle with fright,

for bearing the burdens has come with a score.
