Unseen Marks

Caught off guard, a stranger's gaze met mine,

a birthmark I’d never known, like a dark star,

its shadow dancing on skin, not a sign

of flaws, but a story, a map from afar.

On my wrist, a spot like an ink drop fell,

unexpected and real against my pale skin,

an island amidst quiet waves, wishing well,

showing me a secret I didn’t begin.

It's odd how these marks, overlooked, find voice,

shared in a glance, suddenly I can see,

how small things can carry such weight, such choice,

wearing my history boldly, just like me.
