Dead Link

The box is white and very blank.

I didn't even have to think.

My fingers moved, a rusted crank,

and typed it in—a sudden sink.

A string of digits, lowercase,

a dog I haven't seen in years.

I sent it out to empty space

where everything else disappears.

The server's gone, the link is dead.

But in my joints, the ghost is bound,

still walking laps inside my head.
