The Things I Refuse to Learn

The water is a flat, grey eye.

It won't blink and it won't leave.

I tap the glass of the phone

to find the numbers again.

The blue light spills into the sink.

One part white powder, two parts sour.

I have read this sentence so many times

it should be a part of my skin by now.

But the screen goes black

and the water just sits.
