Noise Complaint

The neighbor’s dog barks, a piercing, raw sound,

a clock without hands that just won’t wind down.

Echoes of restlessness, it fills up my nights,

the muffled thud of a fist against walls, fights.

Each bark a reminder, each howl a cruel tease,

that sleep has escaped me, replaced by unease.

I think of the mornings, their sun softly bright,

while restless dogs yelp, robbing dreams of their flight.

My patience wears thin like a thread slowly frayed,

while echoes of barking invade my charade.

An earnest request sits heavy on my tongue—

can silence be golden when the night’s still young?
