Against the Odds

Amidst the harsh gray, a lone leaf burst through,

green against concrete, it dared to renew.

With roots that resist, clawing life from the stone,

like whispers of strength in a world overgrown.

A stubborn resilience, this fight for the light,

speaks of persistence in the face of the fight.

It stretches and reaches, a glint in the eye,

in the cracks of the pavement, it scrapes at the sky.

How small it appears, yet fierce in its quest,

the simple audacity blooms like a jest.

And I, watching closely, forget all my fears,

for sometimes it’s weeds that grow best through the years.
