Balancing Acts

The kitchen hums softly, a clock on the wall,

baking cookies for someone, a fleeting recall.

Flour spills like secrets, sugar weighs down my chest,

adding adulthood to cookies, it feels like a test.

Stirring memories slowly, each drop a regret,

while life leans its weight on my shoulders—upset.

A timer ticks time away, freedom’s just out of reach,

I roll dough like the choices, these lessons they teach.

Piping sweet icing, but the laughter feels thin,

are we measuring joy or the moments we’re in?

The weight of this life, it swells in the air,

a blend of love, doubt, and the burdens we bear.
