Failed Foundations

I tried to construct a shelf, sturdy and proud,

but it splintered and crashed, a scream in the loud.

The tools lay scattered, dreams scattered more,

as I knelt down to gather the pieces on floor.

Each screw held a promise, yet came undone,

the weight of my wishes felt heavy and spun.

Splintered wood whispers of hopes dashed and cracked,

as I stared at the remnants of dreams I had backed.

This thing I had built, it held so much weight,

crumpled now, wrecked, like my own sense of fate.

I patch up the edges, yet feel the defeat,

as I sift through the shards of ambitions that beat.
