Love's Shifting Shadows

I sit across the room, invisible, unseen,

witnessing joy from where I have been,

they laugh together, his head thrown back wide,

a spark ignites where my heart wants to hide.

The sound fills the air like glitter or light,

a beautiful ache, a blend of delight,

the moment their eyes lock, something unwinds,

while I, in the silence, am lost in my mind.

Love expands to fit where I no longer stand,

a spectator to warmth I can't quite understand,

a fleeting connection dissolves in the room,

a silent film fading into its own gloom.
