The old shed door

The old shed door.

It won't quite catch.

A thin, black gap.

No metal latch.

The hasp is worn,

a smooth, slick curve.

It slides, it skips,

it fails to serve.

A promise made,

a closing sound.

Then pulls apart,

no safety found.

Cold air creeps in.

A silent, slow

undoing. This,

I think I know.
