Layered Paper

The corkboard breathes dust.

A skin of old paper.

Faded edges curl,

like a spent taper.

A concert from years back.

A dry-cleaned receipt.

Pinned beneath three others,

a life, incomplete.

That yellowed Post-it.

Its message erased.

By time, by more layers.

A memory displaced.

The bent pins hold tight,

to nothing much new.

Just a past that stacks up.

Stuck, and askew.
