Unanswered Ring

The name,

a faded script

on thin cardstock.

A practiced hand,

not quite mine.

I read the wish,

a small bright thing

from another year.

The voice that spoke it,

now a ghost.

The number in my head

went dead

long before the line.

Just absence,

a quiet click.
