Water's Load

Out of the churn,

a sudden heft.

A lesson to learn,

nothing is left.

The cold, dense drape,

a slick, heavy press.

No escape,

from this small distress.

It pulls my arms down,

a sodden, quiet thing.

A silent drown.

The weight it can bring.
