A sweetsour smell a bitter shock

A sweet-sour smell, a bitter shock,

as I pull the crisper from its lock.

A pepper, red, now a dark husk,

lost in the fridge's early dusk.

A green bloom spreads, a fuzzy stain,

like some strange, soft, domestic rain.

It shrinks and shrivels, slow decay,

a quiet, wasted yesterday.
