Clean Break

It wasn't a crash,

more a quiet crack.

The little coaster, blue,

hit the tile, broke in two.

No jagged edge, no spray

of shards. Just pulled away

from itself, clean and neat.

A perfect, sad defeat.

The painted flower, bright,

split down its center, right

through the petal, white

on either side, a perfect light

along the fault. I held the halves,

no repair, no chance it saves.
