Words that Land

Words fly like spit, sharp and unkind,

each syllable fired, a truth hard to find.

Friends turned strangers, caught in the fray,

a storm in the air, but no rain on the way.

I stand in the distance, an onlooker amazed,

by the fury unleashed, the passion unfazed.

Their voices like daggers, cutting through space,

words hang heavy, a tension we trace.

A piece of gum stuck to the sidewalk below,

reminds me of moments that come and they go.
