The bottom of a swimming pool

I dove into the deep end,

the water still as a night,

light flickers through layers of blue,

a hush where thoughts fade from sight.

Here, I am weightless and free,

but beneath me, rough tiles wait,

my fingers brush against fear,

that quiet depth, a consuming state.

A bubble rises, then vanishes,

a soft breath against my face;

the surface above, it glistens,

while shadows hold me in place.
