A piece of pink gum clings tight to my sole

A piece of pink gum clings tight to my sole,

a stubborn reminder, a snag on the stroll.

Each step is a struggle, each moment a grind,

these fleeting connections, so easy to find.

Summer rain glistens on pavement and street,

yet here is a weight, unyielding defeat.

What once was a joy, now clings like a rue,

reminding me always of things left askew.
