A Thing Your Body Does

In a coffee shop filled with laughter and light,

my leg starts to twitch, an unwelcome plight.

I sip from my cup, it trembles in hand,

but the jerk of my knee feels like shifting sand.

The laughter surrounds, but I’m lost in this dance,

a spasm that steals away my chance.

I’m caught in the tick of something I dread,

as I shift in my seat, my body misled.

Each laugh feels like judgment, eyes dart my way,

while my heart races fast, in this public display.

What a thing to surrender, this body of mine,

betraying my thoughts, when all I want is to shine.
