The Last Light Before Dark

Caught in the window, I gaze at the sky,
a canvas of lavender, where daylight says goodbye.
The sun stretches low, painting edges of night,
with tangerine hues, a fleeting delight.
I stand on this cusp, where warmth starts to wane,
as shadows grow longer, the quiet feels strange.
The last flickers fade, like thoughts left unspoken,
as dusk wraps the world in a silence unbroken.
Here in this moment, I wait for the stars,
for the moon to awaken, to take me to Mars.
But as light bows out, a twinge of regret,
lingers in twilight, in the glow of what’s met.
