Stairs of Silence

Descending the stairwell, I quicken my pace,

as echoes remind me of your heavy grace.

The walls hold our secrets, each step a refrain,

while silence fills spaces where love turned to pain.

With every footfall, my heart beats away,

a countdown to freedom, a wish to dismay.

Thoughts bounce off the concrete, the flickering light,

reminding me always, we vanished from sight.

I run from the words that we left in the air,

every silence between us a heavy despair.
