Voices Below

A manhole cover gleams, rough in the light,

a portal to silence, to shadows and night.

Above, life continues, the city alive,

but beneath is a stillness where secrets survive.

It swallows the sound of the street's bustling song,

a dark circle beckoning, where the lost all belong.

What whispers are held in that underworld peace,

the unspoken depths where the heart finds release?
